What changes a verdict
Buyer fit can reverse the ranking
A lighter detector may beat a deeper one after four hours. A simpler detector can outperform a sophisticated machine configured badly. A waterproof detector may still struggle in conductive salt. A smaller coil can matter more than a new control box in dense iron.

Questions that expose weak review claims
What makes a metal detector review credible?
It identifies the exact model and configuration, separates documented specifications from observations, defines the test conditions and states limitations that could reverse the recommendation.
Are metal detector air tests useful?
They can compare relative response under controlled conditions, but they do not reproduce mineralization, wet salt, target masking or in-ground halo effects.
Should advertised depth claims be trusted?
Only when target size, orientation, ground, coil, settings and repeatability are disclosed. An unexplained maximum number is not a useful buying comparison.
Does a more expensive detector always find more?
No. Added controls and analysis help only when they fit the site and the operator can use them. Ergonomics, stability and coil choice may matter more.
How important is firmware in a detector review?
Critical. Updates can change audio, target scales, filters, stability and user workflow. A review should identify the relevant version or acknowledge uncertainty.
Should included accessories affect the review verdict?
Yes. Coils, headphones, chargers, wireless modules, warranty and required proprietary accessories change the usable system cost.
How can affiliate bias be recognized?
Look for universal winner language, missing drawbacks, unsupported ratings, unstable prices and purchase links that are not connected to a specific buyer conclusion.
Should I read a review or a comparison first?
Use reviews to understand each detector independently. Once the shortlist contains two realistic models, use a direct comparison to isolate the deciding tradeoff.
